AaRLs Weekly Rant - Episode 004

Fuck the day. Another thing to rant about... or actually... just question.

Why do video game companies feel the need to release games at different times in different regions? I can understand only releasing certain video games in certain areas. Like many games that are in Japan never see the rest of the World... ever! I bring this up well because of FF13-2. No no, its not growing on me nor do I feel the need to play any current FF game. But I do check in with the FFWiki page and a few other gaming news sites.

Leading up to the Japan release of FF13-2, many 'leaks' took place will in advance. Screenshots here, trailers there. Other goodies in the corner. Even a DLC video popped already just a week after the game came out. Hell even a week before the games release, the entire opening cut was leaked.

What bugs me is that, for people who want to play outside of Japan... isnt that experience ruined by all this? I mean, it takes under 5 minutes to search and see nearly every thing in the game already. What happens to Lightning, the multiple endings and all that good stuff. Not to mention already published video walkthroughs and guides/FAQ made. I know for me, if I gave a dam about a game and someone/company kept posting info about it. I would click to no end before its release here.

Basically, I ask this, do you think its time to end this region by region roll out? I mean the game isnt going to fail by SE standards. It will make back more than what it cost to make even though it doesnt matter to the core FF fans. Thats not the point. For the people that do care, I feel its things like this that ruin the gaming experience. Perhaps even cheapens it.

\There is now talk of next year during the Black Friday sales that stores will not even close starting... WEDNESDAY! In New York anyway. Are you fucking kidding me? Back years ago, when I worked retail. I had to be in @ 3a Friday to be ready for a 4a open. OK thats fine. I can understand one day a year we "go nuts" and do that. What I dont understand, like this year, is some stores opened at 10pm Thursday night and had "hourly" sales all through the night on different items. So you had to be there at a certain time to get it at a certain price. My question is this. Who the hell is going to work these shifts and more importantly... WHY would you work them?

\Its funny me to me because now with the Internet, the same sales are online by Monday anyway and with free shipping. Best Buy for example had over 95% of the same sales Friday as they did Monday. So why the getting their at noon time Thursday for a midnight opening to get the SAME deals online just 3 days later? So I can get a "free" $10 accessory in trade for stupidity and violence? You can keep it! Many other stores here offered the EXACT same sales and even printed it in the ads. But still people rush the doors, push and shove. Even fight and threaten lives for what? A video game? A TV? Last year, some poor employee @ Walmart here (sorry SG) got bum rushed when he opened the doors and got killed by the brainless stampede of people. This is where common sense is needed. I say "Black Friday" should become an INTERNET ONLY THING starting Friday night to Monday night. Plain and simple!

\Now I know nothing beats actually going to the store to look at/hold/feel/ and compare in your actual hands. But hear me out. Stores release their "secret Black Friday sales ads" at the beginning of November. There not that hard to find, online or even in the store. Just have to ask the right person. Do your research BEFORE hand and see if the item(s) will be on the Internet sale. 95% they will be! And then you have nearly 4 weeks to look around without anyone else trying to rape you for that piece of clothing you have or TV. Ive never shopped in store on Black Friday or any day close to it. Ive waited till Monday with the Internet Sales and have gotten every thing on my list... except of course those 10 dollar ear buds that I wouldve gotten free had I waited in line for 12 plus hours! Oh but wait... limit 5 per store and no rain checks!

Comic characters who are idiots

James Gordon is an idiot. I had this thought while reading some Batman stories, the latest I read was Hush where a retired Gordon talks to Batman about not killing the Joker. He talks about how Batman (who's got the Joker by the throat) should think about this and that and how he wouldn't let the dark knight kill him when he shot his daughter or his wife. This part gave me pause because I read Killing Joke and No Man's Land. In Killing Joke Gordon tells batman to catch the Joker "by the book"....HELLO!!! Batman is a vigilante, a hero, but a vigilante. And regardless he ends up punching the Joker in the face anyway. How's that by the book PLUS Batman didn't say, "I'm gonna kill Joker for what he did." Then later in No Man's Land story after Joker taunts Gordon about his now dead wife Gordon NOT Batman shoots Joker in the knee. Is this fucker a hypocrite? And again, batman didn't say anything about killing Joker. He tells Batman not to kill the Joker or how he wants batman to show how they do things. My assumption of Gordon is this: He's a good cop who believes in the law but at the same time while not corrupt like his fellows he's such a damn hypocrite about the Bat it's insane by itself. Plus I'm confused whether Batman sees Gordon as a friend or simply an ally with the same goal.

Next on the table is Lex Luthor. This idiot was Dr. Evil before Dr. Evil was Dr. Evil. How many damn times are you gonna have Superman at your mercy before you just say, "I'm gonna stand here and fucking watch you die to make sure no one fucks this up." Look at the damn movies and shows! He put a chain with a chunk of kryptonite on Supes throws him in a pool then freaking leaves the room. Nice going for the master-criminal, nevermind his girl is obviously turning a new leaf since you're bombing her mother's home town. In the second movie he gets a pass....since the idiot trio who handily beat Boy-Blue to a pulp just let him fly off like idiots. But, in the latest movie he went so far as to STAB Superman with Kryptonite then throws him into the ocean. See a pattern? And I'm gonna be honest here, if my cohort threw out the most powerful weapon like that chick did and I was a heartless monster like Luthor is supposed to be, I'd of thrown her ass out and told her to get the fucking things or get left behind. Oh, but he keeps her in the chopper with him and takes off...so much for the heartless monster bit. Get him a damn cat and a lisp and all we're missing is Superman having a british accent.....

Now we get to Spider-Man, more specifically Peter Parker. 1st Parker is so much a fucking mommy's boy about his aunt it's annoying. I saw this when I used to read the books and it was getting on my nerves. 2nd there's a Spider-Man story who's name I currently forget where the Marvel Devil (also forgot his name) gives him and Mary Jane a deal, Aunt May or their marriage. Now Aunt May is dying of natural causes, she lived a good life, and it's her time to go. Mary Jane is his wife, a freaking model, and a nice piece of T&A. So obviously what does Pete do? Mr. Brainless-Dipshit fucking takes his Aunt. Oh the best part here is that Mary Jane adds a deal to this thinking the love of her life will pick their marriage. Obviously she didn't know Petey well enough to see how big a fucking douche he was. This by itself allows Pete to have his memory erase of his time with Mary Jane but she gets stuck knowing how he betrayed her love. ARE YOU A COMPLETE FUCKING IDIOT!!! Goddamn it all to fucking hell!!! What is wrong with this imbecile? You don't see Batman trying to make deals to bring his parents back (I doubt he would do it if given the chance honestly). Also, he has a kid with the daughter of 1 of his deadliest enemies and still has the hots for some chick in fishnets and Catwoman!!! You, Mr. Parker, are a fucking dumbshit who deserves all the punishment the Green Goblin or any of the others gave you. You are an idiot who talks big about morals then goes and stomps on the people who trust you just so you can extend the life of a woman who if she knew what you did to Mary Jane, would fucking load her purse with rocks and beat you to a bloody pulp. Gods I was pissed about Spider-Man after that 3rd movie but when I heard about this total betrayal of a character I was livid. My fucking God. Fuck you Parker. I hope Dr. Octopus goes hentai on your ass. You deserve it you moron. Fuck you, I have less morality in me plus no super powers and I KNOW I can treat a hot piece like MJ better then you. Was the sex bad or something? I can't see how but I guess it's a possibility but Christ....

AaRLs Weekly Rant - Episode 001

Welcome to the first segment of this weekly column. I had many topics planned this week, but for me one stood out more. So on with the show... Im sure weve all done it. In the dark, alone, in front of a crowd, even with our parents or complete strangers in the room... yes Im talking about "Arguing Through Texting". Whatever the kids call it these days, I have no idea, but it happened to me this week. Theres nothing like receiving a text full of hateful, over the top or shortened, misspelled words that are completely CAPITALIZED! Now I love arguing, but I prefer it face to face. But sitting behind the keyboard/cell phone. Certain peoples seem to think they are a "Word God".

A long story short. Me and this friend, who is college educated of course. (Im not and therefore stupid in todays world. Yet she makes 11 bucks an hour and is 25K in debt to my 30 bucks an hour and zero debt. Go figure. Not the point here.) She thinks she smart and she loves texting. She rather text you across the table then talk to your face. Add dropping those college level word bombs that you need a fucking dictionary to figure out. And then add a warhead of a missing letter here and switched letters there that completely change the words meaning and purpose. (In fact, I think she does it on purpose) Yet face to face, she completely fails. She cant find those word bombs which become duds. All those fancy words that she can spell on a dime (mostly) from a keyboard fail her in face time. The art of face time is LOST! Basically, what Im saying is that she cant carry on a conversation at all, at least an in depth one, but from behind a cell/keyboard. Shes gold. (Or at least shiny silver)

Im straying from the point though... Imagine your waiting for the train or at work already. Pissed off from being late or the boss being a prick. Now you get an incoming text from that special bitch of a person. On their high text horse, dropping word bombs that contain 4/5 syllables for 4/5 words in a row. Describing a situation like writing a novel... in a text. Having to wade through those big college words trying to figure out what the fuck she is talking about. ((She is the kind of person that would send 100+ words describing a circle!!) (Go try that one yourself!)) And oh yeah, go make them letters BIG! Theres been times where I stood there missing train after train being so pissed from 1, trying to figure out what the hell she is talking about, 2, trying to define these words she uses, 3, scrolling back and forth reading earlier texts that lost meaning 30 seconds ago and 4, writing a text, deleting and writing it again and making sure I didnt miss a word so it makes sense. And then 5, when you do finally send, your cell phone hates you and changes words around, or omits them completely thus changing the entire text convo. Possibly making things much worse. Oh but wait, you cant do anything because you lost signal underground! I sit there and wonder how such an educated girl is so fucking stupid in the real world. A simple phone call could be used to replace countless text and convey so much more info in a much shorter time. Yet she is a brick in the ocean trying to swim with that. So much for that "edyoukaytion" she has.

Look, Im sure you can modify or relate to this story here. In a forum, people argue with their E-Penises. Trying to sound or look smarter than they are. People flip out if you use A FEW CAPITAL lettered words. (Im telling the admin on you or my eyes are bleeding) And add to that, 'mispeeled' words and people who think they are smarter than they think. Its a fucked up combo me thinks. In this day and age, with "textnology" with Swype spelling words as fast as you can say them. People have lost the art of actual F2F (Face to Face), dare I say, SPEAKING! So next you find yourself "Arguing With Text" Switch over to that contact page and dial up a real conversation! If you can that is...

Weekly Rant Spot?

I have an idea for here... What about starting a weekly rant for each of us? Like once a week, on a set day hopefully. We each can rant about something that is bothering us, or simply just want to get out there. Theres only 3 of us for now, but like Ive been saying for what 4+ years now, maybe there will be others....smh... This wouldnt effect our commenting of course or some random thing we come across to "crank" about like PETA Mario... bull shit... You get my idea?

So how about it? I would like to choose Sunday. That way I can keep every thing I do on one day for me. Make it easier on myself. Post up the comic and a weekly rant about life. How about it?

AaRLs Comic - Episode 54 - The Offer

Sorry this one was a day late. Forgot to upload it yesterday.

The future is strong for the comic. Im back in the groove now for ideas regarding where I want it to go. The problem is finding time to do it. Its that time of year again. Between work and free time... its hard to balance the two. The weekly release is not in danger at all, but doing a special comic like I did last year might not be in the cards. (A double/triple sized one) But we will see. Im not just gonna slap to comics toegether and call them one. It has to make sense somewhat now...

I know it seems like I dont ever have time to do them, or that it seems like Im bothered by such a small audience regarding them. The truth is that I dont mind. Its my escape from life. Doing about 2 hours or so of work on one comic my not seem like enough, but I enjoy doing them. I dont care if anyone reads them or not. It maks me happy! Its just finding the time to set down and pln out each strip. Enjoy!

PETA and Mario

I'm not sure how many have seen this but: Mario Kills Tanooki.

Yes, PETA is going after the worlds favorite plumber. I guess the past 30 years of killing turtles, fighting with a woman stealing monkey and giant lizard, destroying mushrooms, polluting the air with go-karts, cleaning up pollution, and flying around space destroying the ozone. But this was the straw that broke the back? Seriously, go fuck yourself. This is just bullshit.

The original Tanooki suit debuted in  Super Mario Bros. 3 in 1988. For 23 years he's been wearing the same suit (not in recent games, but Super Mario Bros. 3 has been rereleased frequently on various mediums and most are recent ie: the GBA remake, and released on the Virtual Console for the Wii and 3Ds) this isn't something new. This is just a case of PETA trying to use shock value to push a campaign to get attention; like that little kid who always did stupid shit in school or at a party. Like you know, Tom Green.

Now let me state, that I am all for the ETA part of PETA. It's the People that give that organization a horrible name and causes problems like this. A lot of the ideals and a few of the things that they've accomplished over the past few years have been rather nice. However, their public relations group are full of fucking morons. Who thought this was a good idea? You know how big a backlash this is going to get? Hell I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo sues them for defamation of character. Mario is an icon, and one of the most recognizable characters of all time (right up there with Sonic and Micky Mouse). You don't do something like this.

I guess this counts as a mini-rant / the "WTF Moment of this week".

OK... this has bugged me ever since it started. More so now than ever. Lets take FF13-2 for example. Forget about why its still being made or how it came to be. Im just using the situation for an example...

The only possible reason is that the industry wants to butt rape you while you stand on a bed of hot coals surrounded by fields of lava. What gives? Seriously? FF isnt the only game out their doing this. Some other games have announced the day of release or with in a week of release. But at the time, this was announced months prior to launch. Its like saying: "Heres an incomplete game but we will still charge you the full price" I swear I will never by another game again at full price. It doesnt pay anymore because 65+ (tax) isnt the top tier anymore for games.

Well well... Wheres my comic you ask? I ask the same thing. Hit a bit of a rough patch during October. And now thats over with, work kicks up with overtime. If they dont spend it, they lose it for next years fundings. I havent been on the computer as much. I went back and saw that I started on Episode 53. Had no idea what was going on myself lol. Holidays.....

I'd like to know when the freaking Holidays started so freaking early. The holiday season when I was a youngen didn't start till close to or after Halloween. Now, you walk into a freaking Waltard (WalMART ><) and you find a freaking 10' tall Griswald tree in lawn and garden, in feaking AUGUST!!!! K-marts have pretty lights and decorations with the Halloween stuff (wtf is that about?!?!?!). People spending $500 on stuff for gifts for 1 person, ONE PERSON....AND THOSE SAME PEOPLE AREN'T DONE SHOPPING FOR THAT PERSON?!?! Seriously?!?! And getting back to the trees, wtf is with all the colored trees? Purple trees, Pink trees, I walk through expecting to see a Charlie Brown tree somewhere. that 10' tree had me checking for a freaking squirrel.

Now lets get to the gifts, why is it parents give their 8 year old kids an iPhone or Blackberry or whatever freaking phone is out there? The freaking kid is EIGHT!!!! WHAT? THE? FUCK? What happened to getting them a Transformer or My Little Pony, or Nerf gun? Fuck Elmo. Fuck him up his fuzzy red furred ass. Don't start with that little jerk. Tickle me Elmo, Sing with me Elmo, Rub my ass with lotion Elmo.....OK i don't know about that 1 but you get the point.

Kids have turned into little bastards. "Mommy, get me this" "Daddy get me that" Know what, Fuck you. Go earn your shit. There's butt ugly Aunt Murtle, you go give her a kiss and I'll give you $5 cause you earned it......

Oh and by the way, anyone remember Thanksgiving? That time to give thanks? Those little shits should be thanking their parents for being gullible in thinking they can be responsible for a peace of technology. I mean c'mon, they can't be trusted with a credit card but we give them a freaking phone to go on the internet?!?! I'll give you this, least those phones would make anatomy or sex classes interesting if someone pulls up a Ron Jeremy video....

As a side note, I went back and found when I actually released these comics. Both here and the other place (which by the way has not changed at all since we left lol) Its been almost one year (October 1st) that i started this project and 51 comics, later going good me thinks. Perhaps a special comic is in order.....

After much thought on the subject, I've come to a conclusion (at least in my opinion) of why the gaming industry is in such distress. Which also explains why franchises like Final Fantasy are considered stale and boring now. I'm planning on breaking this rant/essay up into multiple parts and this will be the first part.

A standard of any role playing game (in any form, paper or video game) is a compelling story and the progress made through the story with memorable characters and events. Let's look back at the original Final Fantasy game for the NES. While this isn't the 'first' rpg for a video game console, it was considered the best of it's time. While the story was very minimal by today's standards, it was a large leap forward at the time. You had a nice central cast of fully customizable characters who you could make into what you wanted, but at the same time you had a nice memorable cast of secondary characters and a memorable villain. The story was also impressive and deep for what it was. You were chosen by a supernatural force to bring balance and order to the world and stop the ultimate evil over space and time from destroying the world.  As a kid or a teenager at the time that was just awesome, it made you the hero and you were in control. Or that is to say you thought you were. And thus lies the problem. A rpg is not really a role playing game so much as it's an adventure game with role playing elements.

Let me explain why I say that. In every rpg you really don't have control. You aren't the one in charge of your destiny you're doing what they say you can and are allowed very little freedom. Let's look at it like this (see fig.1). You're walking down a trail in a forest, the path turns and churns but it never splits or forks. You know exactly where you're going and how you're going to get there or what you're going to see at the end. You may not know the exact turns or stops on the road but you know what's going to happen so to speak. And thus is the flaw of  every role playing game that's on a gaming console or a pc. You never find that fork in the road that gives you control of how you're going to reach the end of the path. You basically just chug away, hacking and slashing and 'modding' your character so (s)he can kill the big bad thing that threatens the world. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun experience but it get's rather stale after awhile. Which is why I believe that classic role playing games, or  J-RPG in some sects, are falling out of popularity.

The above has stayed true for the longest time for rpgs of the eastern origin.  Now if you look at a rpg from the west, you quickly notice a lot of different things. The story may be similar to the classic style rpgs, you're a hero chosen by something super natural and you must save the world. Typically you're given different methods to customize your character. These usually range from appearance, to stat progression, weapons and skills. The outcomes are limited of course, but it makes you feel more in control of your destiny. Now while the story may be similar you have your typical main story line you have to follow, however you are given a lot more freedom in how you get there (see fig. 2).

Let's go back to our forest path. Now instead of a winding path that goes all the way around the forest and takes a long time to get to the other side we're given different ways to reach this exit. You can cut straight trough the woods, dig a tunnel under the woods, build a flying machine and go over it, or walk the winding path but stop to smell the roses/shed some blood along the way. The choice is a lot more varied and open to how you want to do it. You aren't restricted by some programer telling you how to do things. This is what makes these games more appealing to the masses.

Now both games styles are popular and have cult followings. You mention a good JRPG like Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior (Quest) and people will eat it up like candy. But on the same coin if you mention a game from a developer like Bethesdia (Fallout and The Elder Scrolls series) or Bioware (Knight's of the Old Republic) and people flock to the store like a bunch of sheep. What makes one genre more appealing than the other? Nothing really, however; most 'casual*' gamers will opt for a JRPG over an 'Open Ended RPG' simply because they're more friendly for their play style/schedule. People who have minimal play time but what a rich and interesting experience will get a lot of enjoyment out of a game like Final Fantasy instead of a game like The Elder Scrolls. The reverse is true for the hardcore gamer, they'll enjoy both games equally, however The Elder Scrolls game would offer a richer experience.

I'm going to end this first part with that. It all boils down to personal preference and regional differences. However these major differences is what is causing these games to fall behind in popularity world wide and not have the same appeal as they used to.

*I mean casual in the sense the amount of playtime, not in the skill or game enjoyment levels. Only being able to play a few hours a day makes you a casual gamer despite your skill level in my opinion.

Anyone in favor of a name change to the blog? Any suggestions and stuff would be nice too. I just think with Final Fantasy being kind of... well shit lately it's not fair to just pick on it when there's so much more we can find well horribly funny. I have to ask now... from a non bashing point this time...NOT! WHY?! How many times are we going to go down this road? Is this really the future of Final Fantasy? Is this really how games will be made. Even before the 2nd one is released, there are already hints of a third starting to be made... THIS even after the first in the 13 series FAILED and even SE admits it to a point... altough a small one.

Anyone remember way back in April 2004 when this game to light? I thought it was 05 myself. Go look it up... YOU HAD nearly 6 years to a final release date... And now you pump them out one after another and even before theyre done? You failed at FF14... made it free... still fail... announce another MMO (Dragon Quest) and you still fail... stocks tank... go and announce FF13-3... FAIL FAIL FAIL.

Why not just make thee "FINAL" Fantasy and end it all together. Call it like Final Fantasy XV: Hopefully This Time We Got It Right... then announce a sequel the next day after starting production on it and call it FF15-2: I Guess Not But Youll Still Buy It You Fanboys...then why not go one more step and announce a 3rd in the 15 series and call that one: FF15-3: Wow Your Still Buying This Shit? Only this time since all but 4 people are left with a preorder for the game... include a super secert preorder download video for HD FFNES-FF12 hidden in the game code... thus reigniting the Final Fantasy craze and start all over. But then say its a tech demo for PS4 pissing everyone off again... but then to save face announce a brand new FF with an edgy title. Call it FF16:S3 (Super Sweet Sixteen) Insert hentai, porn and demand all FF girls ever in the game ONLY... but show nothing except mosaics and pixels... maybe a story or line. After that bombs except in hentai circles and basements everyhwere... or until its cracked with a nude patch. Announce FF17:Almost Legal In Most Parts... Its a remake of 16 just with less clothes... but include timetravelling in this one so we can see them with more clothes... and remove some censorship. When that fails too in 2017 (going rate of FF releases). In 2018 announce FF18: FINALLY LEGAL! And just make everyone nude in glorious 4320ppp graphics and TTTHHHXXX surround (make my ears explode) sound and give the remaining one fan and cellar creatures what they want! Almost forgot.. dont forget you limied edtion sets complete with blowup dolls of your favortie ff girls, collector cup made in china that you cant drink from unless your a mutant. THEN... for added kicks... announce a 5th remake of all cartridge era games complete with full hentai sequences now. All that inbetween your main series releases

Dragon Warrior X

Fuck calling it Dragon Quest, I'm from America and it was fucking Dragon Warrior when I was growing up.

Anyway, they just announced Dragon Warrior X will be a MMORPG for the Wii. Am I the only one remotely excited about this? Here's the Sankaku link, can discuss it Dragon Warrior X. It being for the Wii has me slightly worried, but then I remember, Phantasy Star Online was for the Gamecube and the Dreamcast and didn't have a HDD to store Data and the games ran fine and had plenty of updates.

Im still having Internet problems. Its finally came back up (for now) after 5 days of "looking for a signal"... such a joke. And TWC wont credit me till after the tech comes and takes a look. Like they dont know when Im online through THEIR network. Still no where near 100% and will prob go out right after i post this. And too add head aches, the power being going off at random times. My power supply in the computer is on life support. Cant shut down computer. Takes like 30 minutes for the supply to charge. Prob ally from the power going on and off fried it.

Work on comic is fine. Im behind only 3 episodes now. i have 42 done but Ill upload them all the first week of august some time. There is just to much shit going atm.

Final Fantasy

What does it matter anymore? I sat here and had a conversation with my girlfriend about the subject last night (well early this morning) and I've come to the conclusion that Square-Enix is the video game equivalent of M. Night Shyamalan. I'll explain why with everyone's favorite game to love or to hate. Final Fantasy VII

   Many will say this is the best of the series I wouldn't go so far as to support that thinking. I remember getting this game in 1997, it was the first game I got with my PSX (Playstation 1 for all you younger people) and I was blown away at how awesome it was. The story was great, the characters memorable, and it had a great soundtrack. It really was the turning point in the series, the end all of end all at the time. Does that mean SquareSoft should have stopped trying to make new games? Apparently it did.

Final Fantasy VII set so many standards for the RPG market and many of them are still in place today. You had a cast of troubled characters, each with their own dark past. You had stunning visual effects and innovative game play designs. The active time battle system, the 3 active party members, mini-games galore, and enough side quests to shake your fist at in rage because of the varying difficulty.

But for all the good it brought to the market, it became the most hyped game in the series because of it. You don't hear other Final Fantasy games compared to say Final Fantasy IV for instance. It's always compared to Final Fantasy VII, a curse in it's own right. The game set the bar so high for SquareSoft that they've never been able to surpass it in the eyes of the fans, instead they try to cling to the false hope and security that it's gotten them.

That brings me to my earlier statement, that SquareSoft is the M. Night Shyamalan of the gaming world. Shyamalan made critical acclaim as a director with the movie The Sixth Sense. It's hailed as his best production and acclaimed for it's twist ending, it's great story progression and it's suspenseful direction. This has been his curse. He's assumed that since what has worked before will work again and it's what the movie-goers want to see. So every movie after he's followed this same format and it's gotten him nowhere. He's considered a hack and a one trick pony. Sound familiar?

Square has been in the same boat. I feel I have a right to say the things I do being that I've been a fan since the early 1990's. I remember skipping school to play Final Fantasy, my cousin getting me Final Fantasy II (IV everywhere else) for my birthday when it came out, renting Final Fantasy III (VI everywhere else) when it came out. Personally I see Final Fantasy IV as my industry standard. The great story full of love, romance, conflict, horror, betrayal, danger and adventure coupled with great characters, music and game play? It's my favorite of the series.

I'd been a loyal fan through the PSX era, getting Final Fantasy VIII when it came out; (I actually consider FF8 a much better game than FF7 in many aspects, despite beginning to hate it because of the plot over the recent years) and getting Final Fantasy IX for Christmas. I see Final Fantasy IX as SquareSoft realizing that they fucked up and they tried to fix their reputation by throwing back to everything that made the series famous. They took away the future setting and got rid of some of the angst and trouble that was in the past of the characters. Reverting to more traditional standards they attempted to go back to how the series used to be. Many will say it's a faithful retelling of the classic story.. but myself will say it's just more stale rehashed goodness that they've become famous for.

And then we jump ahead a few years to the PS2 and the launch of two firsts for the series. First we'll get around to Final Fantasy X, while a fun game in it's own right it follows this trend that Square decided to do that has become rather.. obvious. They don't spell out the protagonist, and try to make you play as a supporting character rather than the main hero of the game. Despite what anyone says you're just playing a whiny bastard who has serious daddy issues, end discussion. A few years before the release of Final Fantasy X, square began production on Final Fantasy XI, they had actually intended to launch it as Final Fantasy X and X as XI but delays and testing issues sloshed that up. Final Fantasy XI was the first Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game in the series and by it's own regard has been a huge success. It's mostly a love it or hate it game you're either a fan of it or not, there really isn't a middle ground.

Not covered in the header image is the "movie" that ruined the company and pushed it off to near bankruptcy. The ill-fated Final Fantasy: Spirits Within. The movie was such a flop in the box office and the home sales that the company was forced with an ultimatum, merge with another fledgling company Enix or go belly up. Ever since this merger the quality of games has dropped significantly and will continue to do so.

Anyway back on topic. After Final Fantasy X was released people were so upset with the ending (which I was fine with personally) that they demanded a sequel. Something that wasn't done in the series. So we get the ultimate fanservice game, Final Fantasy X-2. It was basically a redone version of Final Fantasy X with the focus on two of the three female leads from the previous game. It wasn't an overly awful game, it was just poorly planned and basically a rehash of Final Fantasy X.

Then we reach Final Fantasy XII, this was the game in the series that made me realize that the newly merged Square-Enix only cared about our money rather than the fans. The story was an even more incomprehensible pile of garbage. You're playing yet another supporting character, the kind where if you removed him from the story entirely, the game would still make perfect sense with his absence. Also this marked the end of the traditional battle system for Final Fantasy, something that had lasted since 1989 was now axed in favor of a more "tactics based" system. While this sounds good in theory in practice it's clunky, boring, and takes all the magic out of the game. 

Speaking of failures of a game, we fast forward a few years, and see the release of Final Fantasy XIII for the PS3 and the Xbox 360. This is, in the opinion of many, the worst game in the series ever made. They butchered the series to where it's barely a shell of it's former self. All the magic is gone and you're left with a narrow minded tunnel crawler with a reset battle button. Sure it looks great, but it doesn't play that well.

I didn't feel the need to cover the Tactics Series or the various remakes (although I included a picture of the box art for FF3 up top) and the side games released for the Game boy in the early 90s. They're all good games but just didn't feel like they needed to be brushed upon in this rant of sorts.

I'm just not sure if it's just me getting older and becoming nostalgic in my old age. Of if it's just me getting to the point where I'm tired of dealing with games and realizing that it's all just a waste because of developers like this. I used to see games as more glorified version of books and movies. Something more interactive (action games) or more descriptive and deep to get myself into (rpgs). I guess I just miss the old days where playing a Final Fantasy game had the same feel as watching an epic movie or reading a great book. This has been a very long winded rant but dammit I wanted to get it off my head. I've lost all faith in this company and honestly will never play or buy a new numbered Final Fantasy game unless things are drastically turned around.

As for my previous statement about Final Fantasy VII not being the best, it all boils down to personal preference. I just feel that this younger generation of gamers who only care about how realistic things can look has no right to say which of these games is the best. Especially when they're making this claim based off not having played any of these when they came out and only after playing Final Fantasy X or seeing Advent Children. So from all the original fans to all you new ones, Fuck You and the high horse you ride on saying it's the best of all time. It most certainly is not FF4 and FF6 and hell even FF8 would have a word with you. Every game prior to Final Fantasy X is great in its own right and should be handled accordingly. Also to all you Final Fantasy X fans, a big FUCK YOU to you for thinking it's the best when you've never played any of the others.

What's this Final Fantasy XIII-2 Might actually be an rpg?

So the rumor mill is churning and there's some actual words from the developers of the original piece of shit game that they're actually making a real "Final Fantasy." Yes that's not a typo they're actually making an actual game this time rather than some action adventure tunnel crawler. If this is actually true, I may have some faith restored in this company.

The developer in question is noted as saying that (this is just a summary btw not the actual phrase) "We understand that our game was a piece of shit that didn't sell well and upset fans, so we're fixing it." The game will have a traditional story format now. There will be an actual overworld map, towns, side quests, the ability to back track and most of fucking all no more gods damn "Oops I fucked up this fight I better hit the "restart battle" button" button. The game is supposed to be more story and player driven. With multiple endings and the options to choose how the outcome of the game is played out. (Think Fallout 3 or the Elder Scrolls series; where your choices and responses to quests, questions, and other actions contribute to how your character is seen and how the story plays out.)

Does this mean S-E finally took notice to what the fans want and is actually trying to restore the former glory and high mark the series had? Probably not, going off their current track record they'll take all the good they're adding to this and fuck it up royally and it'll piss more people off. But hey, at least we'll get a good laugh as the company goes bankrupt from bad design choices, maybe they'll finally hold Wada accountable for it all and fire him.

Why would a company reforecast with a month to go in their fiscal year? Becasue they are a joke is why! And to even put the earthquake in there is "dishonorable" becasue this forecast was done long before it happened. Its just another excuse for "The Wada"... Lets begin..... Why no new news on the "greatest game ever concived"... Final Fantasy 14. Wasnt that supposed to come out in April at the end/begining of the fiscal year for PS3? Wasnt that the mecca of online gaming and SEs new direction with more towards online gaming? Oh wait... its still free to play for the 1000 or so players still around and no hope in sight. Lets move onto Final Fantasy 13... which really gets me going. Such a horrible game by many standards... except those 10 and under today. But yet it sold so many copies, over a million in the first day. Plat status and yada yada! It sold by word of mouth and nothing more. 'Ohh its FF, WE HAVE TO BUY IT!" Plus it was the first FF game in the main series since 2006... a 5 year absence! Also what 'helped' it was its shinny graphics being on the current gen consoles. Also what helped was that in was sold across 2 main consoles and not one like all previous main FF titles. What is not mentioned is that just after 3 months of being out in Japan, prices fell to nearly 90% off the ORIGINAL PRICE... What game has ever done that? NONE! What also isnt mentioned is that the sales figures are for the combined sales of both PS3 and xBox. Bottom line, this game sold becasue of two reasons: ONE- There wasnt a main FF title in 5 years (the sheep craved anything FF) and TWO-It carried the FF name! Plain and simple. SE can slap the FF name on a pile of shit and someone would buy it just because its FF. Look at the reviews of the game AFTER its release... UTTER CRAP but by then, SE got its money and then some. Luckly, by FF14, the sheep wised up and saw SE for what it was. A parasite that tried to continue it current motto: "Put the FF logo on anything and they will buy"

This company has gone down hill since the merger some years ago of Square Soft and Enix... they have lost direction regarding FF alone. At one time, working on 5 FF titles at once. (FF13/13.2/14/Vs/Agitto) Remind you, 4 of these are MAIN console games! Come on! No company can be strung that thin and still make quality games. FF13 was a point and click JPop bonannza! 13.2 will be re done for "the people that had issues with with 13" Most likey similar to that of Star Wars EP 2 to a much darker and maturer EP3. Sure it will sell but people will have learned by then becasue of the FF14 fallout... is anyone still playing that seriously? Not to mention, I took a look at my PS3 collection and at the store... when it was up in April. Have you seen how many titles have an SE logo on them now? How many reboots and redos and revamped titles carry their flag? A lot is the answer. The company is spread way too thin!

This compnay thought that FF13 and FF14 were going to be gold... no Platinum and as priceless as the air we breath and the water we drink to live. Im glad that for the most part, the sheep have woken up and seen The Wada and SE for what they are... GREEDY bastards that have used every excuse in the book and ever trick. all directed at the people that pay their salaries! Never once has the company took blame for anything theyve done. When games fail, its the people fault. When games dont sell, its the peoples fault. When they lose money, its the EQuakes fault. Enough of putting the blame on the people... BLAME YOURSELVES!

Help With Picture Editing

Found this awesome picture of Ashe and Penelo... and that guy. Even more penciled abs here. Moving on... is there away to lift Ashe out of this picture? Ive tried using gimp with the cutting tech with auto following the edges. However, it gets messed up around the spikes in her sword amoung other places. No matter how many small cuts I make with the cuttting tech, its comes out messed up. Anyone know how to tackle this one?
